Why Your Music is Worth More Than You Think

Ever wondered why so many wonderfully creative souls, responsible for creating outstanding songs and recordings, never see the light of day – while others with similar products from a similar background, make money into millions, and sometimes, hundreds of millions? If you’re in the music industry – as I am – you’re going to be aware of this – more every day.

So, what is it that separates those who go to the top of the industry – from those who don’t?

If you believe that most of those at the top of the music industry – got there because they have rare talent; happen to be a child prodigy, or because they had large injections of cash support, then you may be in for a big surprise. There’s about as much truth in this as someone stumbling on Aladdin’s Lamp, or Kissing The Blarney Stone.

What, then, is the real reason why some people who look for and generate products similar to their millionaire counterparts, remain in obscurity? The answer, curiously, is not a solution available only to the elite. It can be adopted by anyone at any time – especially when it appears to be the one thing that can actually level the playing field for anyone with a real passion for getting to the top of the music industry.

The answer is reaching people. Those at the top build entire careers doing just that – reaching people – lots of people to follow them. What’s more, they do it with scientific precision and planning – starting on the day they became serious as a performing artist.

Those at the top ooze a sort of unassuming confidence in their ability – noted and adored by their growing followers. Having talent is just the starting point. By focusing on reaching out to people – people who will follow them no matter what – everything else falls into place, including their music. The more people they reach – the more inspired they become. The moment you realize this – your own situation will start to change.

If you’re a solo artist or play in a band, for instance, and your music isn’t getting a lot of plays, – doesn’t mean it’s bad; it means you’re unheard of – commercially off the radar. If you have, say, 380 followers, and by the end of this year, it’s hovering around 400, your situation is in all probability, not going to improve by writing and recording better songs. I don’t say stop creating; rather, focus on getting more people to like you – to follow you and your music. Get that 400 up to 10,000 in the next few months. The increased numbers will inspire you and move you forward. Never be satisfied with those already following you, no matter how many you have;  10,000 can be 50,000, and 50,000 can be over 1,000,000 plus. Someone once said, “If you build your band solely around those following you – you will have huge success.”
